Le Chamarel Restaurant: A Magical Lunch Setting Inspired by Chamarel’s Natural Wonders
Some places are chosen for lunch. Others become part of the reason for going. Set in the heights of Chamarel, Le Chamarel Restaurant has been reimagined as an experience where the landscape, Mauritian identity, design and Mauritian cuisine belong together. From the moment you arrive, the connection with Chamarel is felt through the panorama, natural materials, local references and details drawn from some of the region’s most recognisable landmarks.
A Table Above the South-West
The view deserves its own moment.
From the restaurant, the panorama unfolds between two of the south-west’s most iconic mountains. To the left, Le Morne rises above the lagoon. To the right, La Tourelle completes the view, while tropical vegetation stretches towards the coastline and open horizon.
The restaurant’s open layout creates a natural sense of space, while low, adaptable furniture provides comfort for both convivial lunches and more intimate moments. Throughout the experience, the surrounding landscape remains present, whether you are seated around the table or simply taking in the view.
Chamarel, Reflected in Every Detail
The identity of the restaurant has been drawn from the place surrounding it.
Wood, stone, plant fibres, woven elements, wicker and a thatched roof bring natural textures into the space. Earth and terracotta tones sit alongside stone walls and handcrafted lighting.
Natural light has been given a central role, while the redesigned layout brings greater flow and space throughout the restaurant. Tropical vegetation remains part of the setting, creating a connection between the interior and the environment beyond it.
Mauritian identity is expressed through materials, local craftsmanship, collaborations and subtle references to Chamarel placed throughout the restaurant.
From the Seven Coloured Earth to the Bar
One of Chamarel’s most recognisable natural wonders has found its way into the restaurant’s design.
The bar draws inspiration from the dunes of Chamarel 7 Coloured Earth, with flowing lines and earthy tones echoing their distinctive layers and natural palette. Rather than recreating the landscape, its colours and movement have been translated into the space in a subtle way.
It is one of the details that brings the identity of Chamarel into the restaurant.
Chamarel Waterfall, Reinterpreted Through Art
Another local landmark takes on a different expression through the work of Manuela Rogers.
Her artwork depicting the iconic Chamarel Waterfall is created using tea and coffee, including coffee from the terroir of Chamarel. Through these simple materials, warm textures and tones emerge, offering a soft and timeless interpretation of this spectacular landscape.
The piece brings together several elements deeply connected to Chamarel: its majestic waterfall, its exceptional coffee and the richness of its land.
Displayed within the restaurant, it becomes more than a representation of the waterfall. It carries a fragment of Chamarel’s soul into the space.
Where Chamarel’s Terroir Meets Mauritian Flavours
At Le Chamarel Restaurant, lunch celebrates both Mauritian cuisine and the local terroir, with several lunch options to choose from.
La Table Créole brings traditional Mauritian flavours to the table, while Les Terres de Chamarel takes inspiration from the ingredients and character of the region. The à la carte menu completes the offering with signature creations and a varied choice of dishes.
