Nestled in the heart of Mauritius, Chamarel is a gem from our past, delicately set in the present. Its name evokes an echo of the eighteenth century, as a tribute to Charles Antoine de Chazal de Chamarel. Preserved from the world’s hustle and bustle, this enclave has retained its rural essence and authentic charm, a vestige of a colonial past that we still see through the harvests and seasons. Now, Chamarel is much more than just a tourist destination; it is a haven where nature, history and Mauritian culture blend together with charm. It is a promise of an authentic adventure, combining history, a return to nature and a fascinating immersion in the daily Mauritian life.

Our history began in 1992, more than 30 years ago. Since then, we have had the honour of offering a unique experience to our guests every time they visit. With an initial capacity of 175 seats, increased to 265, following renovations in 2016, our convivial space encourages discoveries and sharing.

 

In addition to our cuisine, a breathtaking panorama greets our visitors, nestled at 268 meters above sea level in the heights of Chamarel. The south-west coast of the island unfolds before your eyes, from green mountains to the infinite ocean; each glance reveals a bit more.

Under the leadership of Faizal, our restaurant manager for the past 13 years, a passionate and dedicated team combines Mauritian hospitality, culinary expertise and an unmatched attention to detail. Chef Wesley, a true cuisine maestro, works every day with his team to narrate the story of Mauritius through your taste buds. By traveling the region in search of the best local and seasonal ingredients and working closely with producers who share our love for the terroir, we have revisited local cuisine, with a blend of creativity, local spices aromas and a touch of love.

Our philosophy

Our cuisine draws its essence from the richness of Creole, French, Indian and African influences that have shaped the island’s culinary identity for centuries. Our menu changes with the seasons. From summer dishes, with fruits and locally sourced fish, to winter flavours with deer from the surrounding chassés and pineapple, each season brings its own set of discoveries. Whether you opt for our signature menu, our à la carte selection or another gastronomic experience, each dish reflects our desire to make you experience culinary classics. Our know-how also perpetuates the traditions of our grandmothers, with homemade “gâteaux piments” (a Mauritian snack), ancestral cooking methods and authentic spice combinations.
